Alien assault Rush

About

Alien Assault Rush is a 2D Platformer made for CAS 117 that uses MSU's assets as its base. In creating this game, I had to add 3 significant modifications to it and decided to add more unique levels, create lava that immediately kills the player, and create a larger enemy type with more health. While the main focus of this game was the custom level design of 3 levels, I still had to figure out how to use some of Unity's tools and code in order to get custom behavior from the boss enemy and the lava, which was very rewarding. In Alien Assault Rush takes control of an astronaut and has to work through platforming puzzles in order to get a key and clear a room while simultaneously defeating enemies in their way. Do you have what it takes to make it off the ship?

Inspiration

This game was inspired from Mark Brown's Game Maker's Toolkit YouTube series. After watching his video on puzzle making in video games, I was inspired to try to make some intelligent design decisions on my game. While the player can take any path to the exit in Alien Assault Rush as long as they have the key, I tried to place items in specific spots to let the player learn skill passively and intelligently. This is knowledge that I plan to use and grow as I continue to make more games.
