Future Plans

As I start to get into the 400 level CSE courses I need to take for my major, I have a lot more freedom in choosing my courses. I plan to go down the path of both web and app development, as well as computer graphics. I think these classes will complement my desire to create games and go along quite well with the Game Design Minor. I plan to make more games in and out of class as I learn more and hope to one day be able to make a small indie game for the Steam Market.

My Story

My name is TJ Meyer and I am currently a sophomore Computer Science Major at MSU. Ever since I was little I had a deep love for games and technology. I would always try to tinker around with broken electronics to try to fix them and quickly become the "Tech Guy" of my house. This love only grew and grew until high school, where I was finally able to learn about technology properly. I began to take every CSE course my high school had to offer, as well as joining the programming team for my high school First Robotics Team. Every time I finished one of these classes, I just wanted more, so much so I even got my teacher to enroll me in an independent study programming course our school didn't even offer, as well as allowing me to test drive a new Cyber Security course that the school was planning on implementing. Taking all these courses even allowed me to get the CTE award for my high school, an award which only one person gets each year. Despite all of these, the thing in high school that stuck with me the most was when I was able to make a game during an "Hour of Code" event in one of my classes. While we only did the coding for a week, I kept working on it for the rest of the year without any kind of proper instruction for it. While I had dabbled in some level editors in games and made a few very simple text-based adventure games lost to time, I think this is what truly set me on the path to wanting to build games, whether as a hobby or for a living. Regardless, my first published game, Pokémon Battle set me down this path, and I intend to stay on it.
